Singapore Airlines has confirmed to be the region’s first airline customer for Global Xpress high speed in-flight connectivity solution. The first installation is scheduled for the second half of 2016 starting with the airline’s Boeing B777-300ER aircraft followed by its Airbus A380-800s and A350-900s.

The deployment on Singapore Airlines’ long-haul fleet using GX will allow passengers to access hi-speed connectivity for Wi-Fi, mobile, phone text and data services. The services will be provided by Inmarsat partner SITAONAIR and powered by Honeywell’s JetWave satellite communications hardware.

Inmarsat’s Global Xpress is the first super-fast broadband satellite that will offer downlink speeds of up to 50 Megabits per second download and up to 5 Megabits per second upload over the compact user terminals. It is the first global high-speed broadband for the skies that offer the most extensive coverage of airline routes that comes from a single operator.
