IWC Schaffhausen produced its first Pilot’s Watch Mark 11 in 1948. It is launching a special version of the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII “Tribute to Mark XI” featuring the original design. This special edition is limited to 1,948 pieces which coincide with the year of the Mark 11’s launch. The Mark 11 was primarily supplied to the Royal Air Force as well as other Commonwealth armed forces after which a civilian model was launched in 1994 – the Mark XII.

The small rectangles at “3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock” and the hands are coated with a luminescent material to ensure optimal legibility, even at night. The indices are thin and the triangular index at “12 o’clock” is not flanked by two dots when compared to the previous model. It also features a green textile strap, or Nato strap just like the original from 1948. A soft iron cage protects the automatic calibre from magnetic fields and the sapphire glass is secured against sudden drops in pressure in the cockpit.

This special edition will be available from Harrods in London for three months from July 2017 after which it will be available in all IWC boutiques and authorised retailers.
