Just two years ago, the Hotel Jen brand was born, replacing the Traders brand. The Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts group Hotel Jen has 10 hotels in nine cities in Southeast Asia, China and Australia. Targeting customers who are in their late 20s to 40s, Hotel Jen is suitable for millennials and others who like the service of a five star hotel in a hotel at non five star pricing.

The folks at Hotel Jen have launched a new global campaign called “Leave Boring Behind”. Yes they want to bring out the urban adventurer in all of us by encouraging us to explore the city as well as introducing elements of the city in the hotel.  The campaign has four passion points including After Hours for after dark activities, Native Rituals for authentic local experiences, Get.Set.Eat for cuisine and Jen Why Art for art.

Hor Jiak is Hokkien for tasty and the promotion offers dishes inspired by popular local food in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Five dishes prepared by Hotel Jen chefs in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines will be introduced.

Chilli Crab Fondue from Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore
Chilli Crab Fondue Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore Ah Hois Kitchens signature chilli crab served in a bread bowl

The chefs of Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore are pretty cheeky. They have specially prepared the Chilli Crab Fondue. It’s Ah Hoi’s Kitchen Chinese restaurant is known for its signature chilli crab. Except that this time it is served in a bread bowl. You can eat the bread bowl after you empty the contents as the chilli crab sauce gets absorbed into the bread. All those sweet richness and morsels of crab meat.

Laksa Lemak Singapura / Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore
Laksa Lemak Singapura Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore An alternative take on a classic Peranakan dish in Singapore the wok fried rice is infused with the spicy aromatic laksa broth

Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore offers a Laksa Lemak Singapura dish that presents work-fried rice infused with spicy aromatic laksa broth. Like that also can. We’ve recently had rather shiok Dry Laksa at NOW Noodles+ or late night Laksa with extra hum (cockles) at Mr. Teh Tarik in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

What we had from Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore was rice and prawns wrapped into a bouquet of dried banana leaf. Instagram worthy and tasty!

Laksa Johor Slider by Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor

And from across the border, the chefs from Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour in Johor, Malaysia introduces their Laksa Johor Slider to Singapore. Laksa Johor is prepared with spaghetti that makes up the crispy spaghetti buns sandwiching the meat patty. If my appetite was better, I would have gone back for more of this.

The Smoked Pulled Lamb Pongteh is Hotel Jen Penang’s contribution to Hor Jiak! Promotion. Replacing the traditional chicken or pork pongteh, a Southern American barbecue rendition is introduced using lamb instead. I think you’ll have multiple servings of this.

Ginataang Turon is a combination of two popular mid-day snacks in the Philippines. Ginataang halo-halo is made of glutinous rice balls, tubers and tapioca pearls in coconut milk while the turon is banana fritters. These fritters make a perfect end to your meal but be prepared for the sweetness.
