Sichuan Food Not All Spicy and Numbing

Chengdu-born Executive Sichuan Chef Zeng Feng wanted to let diners know that Sichuan dishes are not all spicy and numbing. In fact, it is not all ma la, onion oil or garlic and chilli. I was indeed surprised to find while most of the 100 dishes were spicy, there were others in plum sauce, five spices, mustard sauces, sweet and sour sauce, a strange flavoured sauce or sesame sauce, amongst many others.

Come in A Group and Come Back for More

Some 70 dishes out of the 100 available were dished out and I only managed to try some 30 dishes. And I didn’t even eat the dishes with rice or noodles! During our media tasting, the food was served on a conveyer belt. Watch the 360 video above. When you visit, the dishes will be served to you at your table.

We suspect you’ll return for more after your first visit. Also go in a larger group so you get to sample more dishes. But for those of you who like spicy food, you’ll be glad to know that chili increases metabolism, reduces accumulation of cholesterol and lowers oxidation rate in the body.

Culinary Classes

If you would like to learn to cook Sichuan food, Chef Zeng Feng will share with you his recipes and techniques through a series of culinary classes. These classes will be held on 21 August, 28 August and 4 September 2016 from 3pm to 5.30pm. Therefore, you better book early. You pay only S$48 nett per person for a demonstration of three Sichuan dishes and a nine-course high tea.
