The Singapore Restaurant Festival makes its debut from 1 July to 30 September 2017. Organised by the Restaurant Association of Singapore, this festival celebrates the flavours of Singapore is an extension of the Singapore Restaurant Month.

During the festival, you can enjoy discounts at over 200 participating outlets island-wide. Enjoy a Chinese, Western, Middle-Eastern, fusion, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Indian cuisines and buffet restaurants that will highlight a locally-inspired dish for the festival.

In conjunction with the 24th edition of the Singapore Food Festival which is happening from 14 to 30 July 2017, each eatery will highlight a locally inspired dish for SRF. Indulge in Chicken Rice Risotto (Joo Bar), Chilli Crab (Palm Beach Seafood), and Chicken Tikka Pizza (Cali Café and Bar) from participating restaurant brands throughout the festival.

Go on a Salted Egg Dish tour from July to December 2017 in the Salted Egg Shiok campaign presented by RAS and Unilever Food Solutions. Visit saltedeggshiok.com to discover the availability of salted egg dishes in Singapore. You may even win prizes in the grand lucky draw when you hashtag #saltedeggshiok or take part in bi-monthly polls on the website.

Star Chef Competition (Home Edition) 2017

For the first time, the RAS and the Singapore Chefs Association will also introduce the Star Chef Competition (Home Edition) 2017, a showdown where the best home cooks are encouraged to show off their culinary prowess for a chance at winning an attractive cash prize.  The competition will be held on 26 August 2017 from 8 am to noon and 1 pm to 5 pm at the Asian Culinary Institute in Paya Lebar. For the month of July, participants will get 50% off the registration fee as well!

Contestants must adhere to the following criteria:

  • • Compete in 16 teams of two
  • • Be between the age of 21 years old and 38 years old
  • • Must not have prior career experience in kitchen operations (e.g. sous chefs, kitchen assistants, etc)
  • • They cannot be students
  • • Teams are expected to prepare an appetiser (seafood, hot/cold), and a main course (meat/poultry)
  • • Use of pork, lard and shark’s fin is not permitted

The competition will be judged by Chef Eric Low, Chef Eric Neo and Chef Heman Tan, and the contestants will be assessed based on the criteria such as preparation, cleanliness, and presentation.

A nominal competition fee of S$53.50 per person – only teams of two are allowed – will be charged and it includes access to equipment and a full pantry, as well as a pre-competition masterclass with one of the judges Chef Eric Low, will be held on 12 August 2017 from 9am to 1pm at the Asian Culinary Institute.

Teams stand to win cash prizes worth S$500 (Champion), S$300 (First Runner Up), and S$200 (Second Runner Up), and walk away with a certificate.
