8 August 2011, Singapore – Knightsbridge on Orchard Road was converted into a little Jamaican carnival area and bustling with a lot of activity last weekend in search of PUMA’s FAAStest man and woman. I decided to drop by on Sunday to check out the celebrities who were in town as well as the very colourful new range of running shoes. Yes, I am still contemplating whether to start the hobby of running since many of my friends are very into the sport. And it is truly one of those sports that one could do alone without having to find kakis to participate in.

Over the two days, 450 participants tried to beat the clock to win a trip to South Korea to meet the world’s fastest man Usain Bolt on 19 August. A “live” reggae band entertained the crowd and Mediacorp and Fly Entertainment’s artistes were among the celebrity cheerleaders over the two days. Besides trying to clock the best individual timing, there were also opportunities to compete against the artistes.

The timings for the top 3 places are:

Men:

PUMA Faas-test Man Muhammad Elfie
PUMA Faas test Man Muhammad Elfie
  • 1st place: Muhammad Elfie, 3.58s
  • 2nd place: Calvin Kang 3.59s
  • 3rd place: Izwan Firdaus, 3.72s

Women:

  • 1st place: Nadiah Hussein, 4.19s
  • 2nd place: Liang Wei, 4.24s
  • 3rd place: Habibah Najihahbi Bte Ahmad, 4.25s

20 year old student Nadiah Bte Hussein will be competing in a speed test against the other amateur runners from ar0und the region, for the title of Asia’s FAAS-test man and woman.   The quiet unassuming Coleman College student was not expecting to win and was almost in tears of joy.  Her male counterpart 24 year old Muhammad and fellow 4 x 100m team mate Calvin Kang who came in 2nd for the FAAS-test race will be representing Singapore in a World University Championships from 14 – 22 August in Shenzhen, China and will miss the Puma consumer event.

2nd runner up, 24 year old Firdaus who also trains with the National Team, was shocked when Muhammed asked him to meet Bolt on his behalf.

Below are more memories of the event, taken with the Sony Alpha A55.  Enjoy.
