November 2010, London – At a high profile event held beneath the iconic Tower Bridge in November 2010, Gyehyun Kwon, Vice President & Head of Worldwide Sports Marketing, Samsung Electronics, David Song, Managing Director of Samsung UK & Ireland and Sandie Dawe, CEO, VisitBritain revealed the joint collaboration to help promote Britain as a compelling destination for tourism before, during and after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The agreement sets out the commitment to celebrate the Games in Britain and make available fresh information and content provided by VisitBritain to be preloaded on the Samsung Galaxy Tab from December 2010.
The parties will offer ‘best of’ recommendations for trips as well as accommodation and entertainment illustrated with stunning imagery and maps, all available free through a bespoke widget and application designed for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab. It is the latest move by VisitBritain to provide visitors to Britain from around the world with the best possible information about attractions the country has to offer. VisitBritain has already developed a range of social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter while VisitBritain.com, voted the world’s best national tourism organisation website, is available in 21 languages – opening up exclusive access to content for visitors to Britain from around the world.
Samsung, worldwide wireless communications partner of the Olympic Games, has committed to making this content available to all Galaxy Tab customers in the form of an application and ‘Best of Britain’ widget. The same contents will also be available for download on all Samsung smartphones through the Samsung Application Store. By delivering rich, compelling content in this manner, the two organisations hope to engage visitors of all ages – but particularly young people – to encourage online and offline participation in the Games and give a major boost to efforts to create a tourism legacy post 2012.

The UK has one of the most vibrant and varied tourism offers in the world and innovative ideas like this, along with our new marketing fund, will help to encourage more visitors to our shores.”
