LEGOLAND MALAYSIA - The Beginning

LEGOLAND Malaysia Opens 15 September 2012

LEGOLAND MALAYSIA

3 September 2012, Johor, Malaysia – 76-Acre LEGOLAND Malaysia will be the sixth LEGOLAND Park in the world to open on 15 September 2012 in Medini North, Nusajaya, the heart of leisure and tourism of Iskandar Malaysia.  Located just around 10 minutes drive from the Second Link connecting Singapore and Malaysia, LEGOLAND Malaysia joins the the other five theme parks in Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, Florida and California.   The first LEGOLAND Park was built in Billund, Denmark in 1968.  Incidentally, this year LEGO celebrates its 80th Anniversary.  Read about it here.

The full day family theme park has more than 40 family rides, shows and attractions for families with children 2 to 12 years old.   You can expect rides that are hands-on that let you push, pull, pedal, programme, steer, squirt, splash, crawl or climb.

Some 50 million LEGO bricks were used to build all the models in the park.

The Park will be separated into seven themed areas: The Beginning, LEGO Technic, LEGO Kingdom, Imagination, Land of Adventure, Miniland and LEGO City.

The Beginning

This is the entrance area where you would be welcomed by the Entry Archway, The Big Shop and Pick A Brick.  This is where you purchase your entry tickets before entering the theme park.  At The Big Shop,  you can shop for LEGO toys in the region’s largest LEGO retail outlet which covers an area of 1,000 square metres.  You can get rare items and merchandise sourced by the LEGO Group from Europe. You would probably go overboard just as we did during the media preview with the over 500 LEGO sets and more than 1,500 licensed LEGO products.

At the Brick Shop, you can purchase single LEGO bricks.  There are 275 different LEGO elements to help you build your own unique designs. Create your own LEGO figurines at the Build-A-Minifigure section at The Brick Shop.

Just outside the entrance of LEGOLAND Malaysia is The Lifestyle Mall.   Phase 1A of the development of The Lifestyle Mall and Residences@Medini North comprises collonade-style retail outlets and alfresco dining.  Subsequent phases will include entertainment such as cinema, bowling, arcade centre as well as indoor ice-skating, laser tag, indoor sky diving and indoor go kart.

MINILAND

This is the heart of legoland, where you get miniature versions (scale of 1:20) of Asian cities including Singapore’s Merlion, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, India’s Taj Mahal, Malaysia’s Petronas Twin Towers and many others.  Kuala Lumpur city landmarks make up the largest exhibit followed by Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Singapore.

The Singapore Flyer and Fullerton Hotel are featured in the Singapore cluster.

There are 17 highly detailed clusters that pay tributes with more than 30 million LEGO bricks to 12 different cities and countries in Asia.  Miniland was designed and built by more than 100 people from around the world.  It took two years of 3D design and production before a training studio was established in Malaysia and the models were built.  Most were constructed locally at the LEGOLAND Model Shop in Nusa Cemeriang in Johor Bahru while others were built in the USA, Denmark, England, Germany and the Czech Republic before being transported in cargo containers.

Do look out for the 10 metres high Petronas Twin Towers which are the tallest Miniland models ever made and they contain more than 500,000 LEGO bricks.

  12. Hey, just wanna ask, what are the prices of Lego sets over there? I hope that it might be cheaper since it’s sold directly under Lego and not authorized re-sellers like what we have in Singapore.

  16. Hi adrians

compare to spore USS, is it better? worth for the price?

    • It is not comparable. USS is for the older children and adults while LEGOLAND is for the younger kids which provide educational entertainment as well as rides.

  17. Am pretty sure Legoland will generate more visitors from Singapore be it locals or tourist.
Didn’t realise the size of the area – perhaps one day may be insufficient with
queuing time. You guys had the luxury of being first in the queue.
    Certainly
