Barcelona is the capital city of the Catalonia community in the Kingdom of Spain, and is home to a rich cultural heritage and, needless to say, a vibrant restaurant scene (with Michelin stars decorating the maps like constellations). Every year, tourist flock over to marvel at the eight UNESCO designated World Heritage Sites such as architectural works of Antoni Gaudi and Lluis Domenech i Montaner, or the many historic buildings and monuments, including the Gothic basillica of Santa Maria del Pi. Even their beaches topped the list of top ten city beaches in the world (National Geographic and Discovery Channel), with Llevant, teeming with adorable pups since relaxing its rules on dogs (during summer).

Sights, sounds and, of course, delicious food aside, there is so much more to Barcelona. The people of Catalonia are proud of their heritage and one very important tradition – Castellers, the human towers.

Dating back to the 18th century, this gravity-defying tradition of building a castell involves everyone from the seniors to the tiniest of kids. As the awe-inspiring performance goes on, flutes and drums play the “Toc de Castells”, a melody indicating the different construction process of the tower. Surely, a sight to marvel.
