SilkAir to Fly to Cairns from 30 May 2015

SilkAir plans to introduce three times weekly flights between Singapore and Cairns on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays through circular routings with Darwin subject to approvals. The airline will operate the latest Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a two-class cabin in Business and Economy from 30 May 2015.

MI 822 departs Singapore at 1.40am via Darwin and arrives in Cairns at 11.50am on Mondays and Thursdays. MI828 departs Singapore on Saturdays at 1.40am and arrives in Cairns at 10.20am. The return flights depart Cairns on Monday and Thursday at 12.40pm and arrives in Singapore at 5.20pm. On Saturdays, the return flight departs Cairns at 11.10am and arrives in Singapore via Darwin at 5.20pm.

The inaugural flight and subsequent Saturday flights will depart Saturday for Cairns non-stop and then return to Singapore via Darwin. The flights on Monday and Thursday will fly to Cairns via Darwin and then return to Singapore non-stop.

With the launch of flights to Cairns, SilkAir expands its Australian routes together with parent company Singapore Airlines serving a total of seven cities including Darwin, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Cairns is SilkAir’s second Australian destination after Darwin which was launched in March 2012.

Queensland Ministry of Tourism expects the introduction of SilkAir’s services to bring an estimated 20,000 extra visitors annually.
