Opened for just over a month, Joie by Dozo is a rarity in the restaurant dining scene in Singapore. While there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan concepts around the island, Joie by Dozo takes a step further by offering refined and creative interpretations that will throw one’s preconceptions of meatless out the door.

The executive chef, Sherwin Sim, hails from the award-winning Coriander Leaf restaurant cum cooking school and aside from the meatless concept, the influence here is markedly distinct with a unique fusion of minimalist Japanese and sophisticated European flavours.

The six-course lunches are priced at S$38.80++ while the seven-course dinners are priced at $68.80++ and diners have the luxury to choose between four to five dishes per course. For dinner, specialties such as Mushroom Gratin and Spring Vegetable Terrine are wonderful starters that showcase the difference between meatless and vegetarian while the soulful Snow Pear and Napa Cabbage Consomme is a cooling and nutritious mid-meal refreshment to the palate.

The drinks selection at Joie by Dozo is just as imaginative as the food, and are well concocted. The Passion Fruit Smoothie is a fantastic palate cleanser to start off while the Mocktail of Love is a fitting ending to a meal with the swirling flavours of cranberry, orange and pineapple contained in an artsy glass like an actual love potion.

Faced with my first course during the dinner, I had soon wondered why meatless was something I’d never considered before. Joie by Dozo is a splendid restaurant to have an enjoyable and guilt-free dinner without making any compromise in taste or quality. It may take an open mind to check out the delights in store, but for a unique dining experience, Joie’s proposition is definitely hard to beat.
