SHABU SAI – Shabu Shabu Buffet at Orchard Central From S$16.99

Shabu Sai At Orchard Central

Shabu Sai opens a second outlet at level 8 in Orchard Central offering an all-you-can-eat Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki buffet.  Its first outlet in Causeway Point continues to serve the heartland area while this new outlet is ideal for big groups right in the heart of Orchard Road.

Shabu Shabu lovers can expect seven different soup bases and a wide variety of more than 60 items (including a small sushi section) at the buffet bar.  They have some great innovative but I would give the kelp soup a miss.  Ladies would love the Yuzu Salt Beauty soup base (which is the soup of the month which changes monthly) where the benefit of collagen lies in this soup. Risotto lovers can also make their own japanese style risotto by adding rice and egg to the tomato soup and letting it boil to a thicker paste.

The variety of food available is not excessive and a must try is the fish cake served in bamboo, a taste of the sea with a tofu texture, keeps you going back to the buffet bar for more.    Well at least, that kept me going back for more servings, with a fish tofu that feels like the egg white.

The only down side for a sweet tooth like me, the only desserts available is the softserve ice cream. Putting aside the lack of dessert choice, the soft serve ice cream is actually very good after a hearty soupy meal.
