Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

February 2012, Singapore – Online competitive intelligence service provider, Experian Hitwise released an analysis of web searches by Singapore Internet users in 2011 providing interesting insights into Singaporean social habits online.

In a series of posts on SUPERADRIANME.com, we’ll share these results with you beginning with the Social Networking Insights in Singapore first.

Here’re the highlights of the findings.

Singaporeans Emerge as Top Facebook Users in The World

Based on the time spent per session, Singaporeans emerged top in the world! Being frequent users of social media sites, Singaporeans use these platforms to connect with friends and keep updated with topical news such as the Singapore General Elections and SMRT crisis.

Facebook’s website traffic is almost 32%, making it the most popular in social networking while YouTube peaked at second place with almost 21% share of visits followed by Google+ at almost 16%.    But seriously, how many of your friends are on Google +?

Microblogging and Community Forums

Twitter and Singapore HardwareZone Community are gaining ground in this category with a combined website traffic of 6.67%.

Instagram

Photography has been gaining increasing interest by Singaporeans.   Look at the number of people on the streets using a Digital SLR camera.  I often wonder if these people really know how to use their DSLRs effectively or do they use one because of the impression that the DSLR takes better photos than the compacts, albeit not knowing how to use them.

Photo sharing application Instagram which is available on the Apple AppStore is listed as one of the most popular social networking apps that Singaporeans use.   This application lets users edit their photos with filters to create different look and feel and share it with their friends through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.

In Singapore the Instagram community has been growing with Instagram hobbyist groups organising frequent Instameets and Photowalk sessions where members share their experiences on taking better photos.
