Head Down To Velocity This Weekend for the Red Bull Rookies Driver Search

Red Bull Rookies Search 2012 Back in Singapore

11 May 2012, Singapore – The second edition of the Red Bull Rookies Driver Search is back in Singapore with a new format which includes both male and female drivers.  Last year’s search was only for women and 23 year old Emmiline Ang was selected as Singapore’s Red Bull Rookie.

Last year’s Singapore Rookie Search runner up Melissa Huang will head up the female team while Malaysian Rookie Driver Mark Darwin will head up the Male team.  Each team will have three drivers.  The search will be conducted in the same three countries as last year, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei.

Qualifying teams will then take part in the  Sepang Endurance Race 1000KM (S1K) from 6 to 8 December 2012 and the winning team of the Battle of Sexes will receive RM10,000 prize money.

The first leg of the search happened on 5 & 6 May 2012 at Big Splash where over 150 candidates’ race craft, fitness, mental acuity, personality, cultural flexibility, media and presentation skills and other attributes were tested.

The second leg of the Search will take place this weekend on 12 to 13 May at Velocity.   If you are between the age of 18 to 25 years old and have a manual driving license and a passion for racing, then head down to Velocity.  The top 20 candidates from Singapore will be chosen to compete with the other candidates selected from Malaysia and Brunei.

50 candidates from 3 countries and 10 candidates selected from online voting on Red Bull Rookies Facebook page will compete to be the final 16.

In the final round, these 16 will compete for spots on the Male or Female team.  The teams will undergo training in various critical essential aspects of racing including physical training, team dynamics, racing techniques and interpersonal skills, leading up to the S1K race.
