Sun PhuQuoc Airways flew its inaugural daily service between Singapore Changi Airport and Phu Quoc on 25 July 2026. We were on the flight from Singapore. The airline operates from Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 and it is understandable why some travellers might mistake it for a low-cost carrier.
However, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is not a low-cost carrier. The Vietnamese airline is positioned as a full service airline, offering Economy Class passengers a 23kg checked baggage allowance, while Business Class passengers receive two checked bags of up to 23kg each.
Inaugural Flight Ceremonies on 25 July 2026
Flying on inaugural flights is always exciting. You are not sure what extras would be added to your flights. There was the usual fanfare for photo opportunities, free luggage tags when boarding in Singapore, speeches, cake and ribbon cutting and even lion dance at the gate.
At Phu Quoc International Airport, there was much fan fare as well. Passengers on the inaugural flight were welcomed by Sun Group’s mascots and given a neck pillow and a note thanking passengers for taking the flight. There was no traditional water cannon salute on either sector.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ first landing in Singapore
9G721 arrived from Phu Quoc at 1.20 pm. The Airbus A321-251NX, registered as VN-A286, was brand-new as of November 2025, as indicated in the Flightradar aircraft tracking mobile app. At 3.24 pm, 9G720 departed Singapore and arrived in Phu Quoc at 3.53 pm. Vietnam’s time is one hour behind Singapore.

Why did the airline choose to launch flights between Singapore and Phu Quoc?
Why Singapore? Singapore was a strategic choice for Sun PhuQuoc Airways because of the country’s strong outbound leisure market and Changi Airport’s role as an international aviation hub. The airline also sees the Singapore service as a way of attracting travellers from other markets who can connect through Changi on their way to Phu Quoc.
Onboard the Airbus A321, A Comfortable Journey between Singapore & Phu Quoc
Sun PhuQuoc Airways currently operates the Singapore to Phu Quoc route using the Airbus A321, configured with eight Business Class seats and 200 Economy Class seats. Despite being a narrow-body aircraft, the cabin feels bright and welcoming thanks to Airbus’ modern Airspace interior, warm LED mood lighting and a clean, uncluttered design.
The airline has opted for an elegant colour palette that reflects its premium positioning. Tan leather seats are paired with crisp white antimacassars embroidered with the Sun PhuQuoc Airways logo, while striking red seat belts add a distinctive splash of colour. The overall look is understated yet refined, echoing the “Resort in the Sky” experience the airline aims to deliver.
Business Class
At the front of the aircraft are eight generously sized reclining Business Class seats in a 2-2 configuration. These are wide, traditional regional Business Class recliners rather than flat beds, which is more than adequate for the sub-two-hour journey between Singapore and Phu Quoc.
Passengers travelling in Business Class also receive priority boarding, access to the beautifully designed Sun Executive Lounge in Phu Quoc and an elevated onboard dining experience, making it an attractive option for a short leisure escape.
Economy Class
The Economy cabin features a standard 3, 3 seating configuration. While Sun PhuQuoc Airways has retained the aircraft’s original slimline seats, they are comfortably padded and well suited for the under two hour journey between Singapore and Phu Quoc. I found the legroom surprisingly generous, offering enough space to sit comfortably throughout the flight.
The seats are reclinable, although I never felt the need to use the feature given the relatively short flight time. Blankets are available on request, but pillows are not provided, so you may wish to bring a neck pillow if you prefer a little extra comfort during the journey. Overall, the cabin offers a pleasant and comfortable experience for a short regional flight without trying to overpromise.
One pleasant surprise was the USB-A charging port integrated into the armrest, allowing passengers to keep their phones topped up during the flight. Individual reading lights and adjustable air vents are available overhead, while every seat pocket contains the airline’s beautifully produced S.P.A. inflight magazine, safety card and sickness bag. Printed Inflight magazines are a rarity these days, so having one to read during the short flight was a great way to kill time.
Instead of traditional seatback entertainment screens, Sun PhuQuoc Airways offers wireless inflight entertainment streamed directly to passengers’ personal smartphones or tablets. This keeps the cabin lighter while allowing travellers to enjoy movies, television programmes and other entertainment using their own devices. I found it worked well throughout the flight. The tray table lets you put your smartphone or tablet so you can watch your entertainment without holding on to them.
Warm Hospitality Onboard
What stood out most during the journey was the crew. The cabin crew welcomed passengers with genuine smiles and performed the safety demonstration with confidence and enthusiasm. Their uniforms, featuring cream, beige and vibrant red accents, complement the airline’s elegant branding while creating a polished first impression.
Shortly after take-off, passengers were served a light snack and beverage. On my Singapore to Phu Quoc flight, this consisted of a warm savoury pastry accompanied by a choice of drinks, together with a refreshing wet towel. While simple, the service was delivered efficiently and was more than sufficient for the short sector.
The combination of attentive service, thoughtful cabin touches, and the comfortable seating made the journey feel noticeably more premium than the typical regional narrow-body experience. Rather than simply transporting passengers between Singapore and Phu Quoc, Sun PhuQuoc Airways succeeds in making the flight feel like the first chapter of the holiday itself.

he Sun Executive Lounge at Phu Quoc International Airport is another Bill Bensley-designed space. It is a very beautiful lounge that brings you back to the early years of aviation. And it does have the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay’s quirkiness, except with an aviation theme instead of a university campus. Inspired by a 1920s aviation academy, the lounge features soaring vaulted ceilings, suspended propeller aircraft, aviation blueprints, vintage travel posters and tributes to aviation pioneers such as Amelia Earhart. It is the renowned designer’s first airport lounge project, and the aviation theme here will be a hit amongst aviation fans.

A selection of pastries, Eric Kayser chocolate chip cookies, salads and hot dishes are available, alongside barista-made coffee, TWG teas, cocktails and other beverages. It was quite an impressive selection for a small airport lounge. Guests can also order freshly prepared Vietnamese favourites such as a comforting bowl of pho, making it easy to enjoy a proper meal before boarding.
Service is attentive without being intrusive. Staff regularly clear tables, replenish the buffet and prepare made-to-order items, contributing to the relaxed atmosphere.
