2025 saw a wave of branded mahjong and poker sets released for the Year of the Snake, so we expected a similar flood this time round. Instead, only a handful appeared, with the standout being the 1664 collaboration Mahjong set with French designer Camille Walala.

The set arrives in a sturdy hard briefcase finished in deep cobalt blue. Camille Walala’s graphic style covers the exterior with bold geometric shapes, lantern motifs and textured gold accents, while the 1664 crest sits prominently at the centre. Instead of traditional auspicious red, the palette leans French tricolour, giving it a modern Lunar New Year look that feels more design collectible than festive packaging.
Inside, the case is lined with plush blue felt and neatly compartmentalised so every piece has its place. It feels more like opening a camera equipment case than a mahjong set.

The tiles are finished in a refined white and blue palette instead of the usual green or ivory. They are medium in thickness, making them easy to stack and shuffle, with deep blue engraved characters that have a subtle gloss. The reverse features the 1664 motif, while the markings stay clear even under warm dining lights. In hand, they feel well balanced, not too heavy yet weighty enough to produce a satisfying clack during play.
The design cleverly blends three worlds, Parisian beer culture, contemporary art, and Lunar New Year traditions, with Poker Chips in the collaborative colours of white, red, and blue.

The limited-edition 1664 x Walala Mahjong Set is a gift with purchase. Spend S$128 on any 1664 products at selected retail outlets and Shopee will receive the set, while stocks last.
