Hai Di Lao Self-Heating XXXL Hotpot Review, Easy Dinner for Four

Hotpot night without the stove? We recently tried the Hai Di Lao self-heating hotpot XXXL, a massive instant set designed to feed four to six people. If you want a fuss free communal meal at home, this one is clearly built for convenience.

Inside the oversized tray, you get two soup bases, classic mala on one side and tomato soup on the other. Ingredients are thoughtfully separated according to each broth. The beef is meant for the mala side, while the pork pairs with the tomato soup, which helps keep the flavours balanced from the start.

Preparation is straightforward. Arrange the ingredients, add water to activate the heating pack, then wait about 15 minutes. The pot heats up nicely, though do not expect dramatic rolling bubbles like a traditional hotpot.

What We Added

Because mala hotpot always invites extras, we topped ours up with Luncheon meat, extra fried beancurd skin, and additional noodles for carbs. With these additions, the portion felt just right for four diners.

Taste Verdict

For an instant hotpot, the flavour is surprisingly decent. The mala broth carries gentle heat without being overwhelming, while the tomato soup is mildly sweet and comforting. It will not replace a full restaurant experience, but for a quick home fix, it delivers.

The biggest win here is convenience. No stove, minimal prep, and a full hotpot experience in under 20 minutes.
