2016 is the year of the monkey in the lunar calendar. The monkey is a curious creature. We got into the mood of that curiosity and was on the look out for red packets that had monkey designs on them. Initially we got a handful and thought that most brands would print generic ones that were more evergreen.
Eventually we received a lot more. Here are over 30 designs of red packets with monkeys on them. We also received many other designs without monkeys on them. Some of them were so beautiful, we decided to do another story on that. Read about them here.

Aloft Kuala Lumpur has produced a fun design red packet featuring a monkey and lion head to usher in the year of the Monkey in line with the DNA of the aloft brand.
Caltex in Singapore has been giving out these red packets at its stations since January this year and we hear that they are extremely popular and are already out of stock at most stations.
This year, the red packet from Carlton Hotel and Carlton City Hotel is in our opinion rich with a deep red featuring a monkey head in the centre with gold leaves surrounding it.
celio* has incorporated the monkey cleverly in a few designs in the red packet giveaway this year.
Coach’s red packet this exudes an elegant simplicity featuring the monkey on the front and its logo on the flap.
Emporio Armani has its brand named emblazoned on the centre of the front with the word Monkey in mandarin printed on the tip of the flap at the back.
Furla offers a more fun approach to its red packets with two designs- one on a red and another on a pink packet. They are packed in an cardboard envelope instead of the usual transparent plastic bag.
Hermes in Hong Kong’s red packet design shows a monkey reaching out for a peach.
These honestbee red packets has a cute picture of a monkey head bee.
Jetstar Asia has printed these classy red packets that will be given out to passengers checking in at Changi Airport from 5 February 2016.
Le Meridien Hotel in Kuala Lumpur has incorporated the monkey as well as the Chinese word for Monkey on its red packets this year.
LEGO Singapore gave the Lego Zodiac Animal Year of the Monkey at its stores with a minimum purchase. Here’s the accompanying monkey design red packet. Err.. in this case, yellow packet. #LEGOCNY #GiftOfPlay
Beauty brand Luxasia offers one of the more elegant red packets. This larger than most red packets stand out from the rest.
Mandarin Oriental Singapore keeps it simple and elegant in its Monkey design red packet.
The Museum Roundtable had a Lunar New Year promotion from 14 January 2016 featuring new monkey designed red packets at the 43 participating museums and galleries in Singapore.
These cute red packets from OCBC’s Mighty Savers will be a hit amongst the young ones. Hopefully it’ll encourage them to save.
Royal Plaza on Scotts has a nice square red packet this year which makes it stand out from the rest. Cute monkey heads of different sizes are spot varnished throughout the red packet. Cute!
Resorts World Sentosa’s red packet incorporates the Mandarin word ‘Spring’ with a monkey. Now isn’t that smart.
SAFRA’s red packet this year feature the 12 animals in the chinese zodiac. At first glance, I thought it was a fern.
Samsung’s red packet this year features a monkey carrying a very large fruit. These red packets are encased in a box. Simple yet cute.
The Singapore Grand Prix has also got its own Ang Pow. This gold packet has a picture of a racing car and two monkeys. And so you don’t forget the dates of this year’s Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore, the dates are printed on the back of the ang pow.
Starbucks never fails to come up with interesting design elements in its collaterals. These red packets were given away to customers with any purchase.
The cover of Tefal’s red packets this has incorporated elements of its 60th anniversary into the shape of the monkey. Remove the cover and the envelope inside reveals the words spring and joy in mandarin. The flowers on the interior design are made up of patterns of a frying pan symbolising the Joy of cooking and iron soleplates that signify Spring’s fresh new start to the year. The red packets were given away with purchase of S$100 and above.
The South Beach hotel gives out its first ever set of red packets since it opened in second half of last year. They celebrate their first Lunar New Year this year with a set of red packets in five colours.
Tung Lok group of restaurants set of red packets come in four designs and four different colours. The first bearing a picture of a monkey, while the rest sports a pair of fishes, lion dance and dragon dance.
The Turf Club here in Singapore has printed these red packets incorporating a monkey embossed in gold. The horse cannot be left out since that’s what the Turf Club is all about. And it has been cleverly incorporated into the red packet.
See no evil, Hear no evil and Speak no Evil. That’s depicted in the theme of UFM’s red packets this year.

UOB’s red packets this year features the monkeys on their reddish pink envelopes.
W Hotel Singapore’s W in the front of the red packet is made up of many Monkey heads while a few bananas embossed in gold accompany them. #HuatWSg
The Westin Langkawi in Malaysia has also printed monkey with the words Year of the Monkey in Mandarin.
